Right. Wrote out one big blog entry, then me being me managed to delete everything i wrote. so here i go again!!
Day One.
Arriving at the Airport was surprisingly drama free, and i say this, as even the simplest tasks with my parents seem to go to extremes. The journey in the car was one full of mixed emotions, i was so excited, but started to feel the nerves a bit. We got the the airport and met everyone else, this seemed to ease my nerves a bit as it made me realise that everyone was in the same boat, no one knew anyone and everyone's big smiles was a massive comfort. After everyone checked in and got all our bags sorted, we all said our fairwells to our parents. I'm not going to lie, this was hard. I wanted to let my parents know how grateful i was for everything they did, but all i could do was hug them and try not to cry. But the sadness of this soon went away when i got a phone call 5 minutes later from my mother, expecting her to cry DONT GO STAY WITH ME FOREVER, but oh no, instead of a loving phone call, i get "LAUREN! where did we park the car! we're lost!!" Good one guys, real smooth.
The first flight, to Nairobi went really well, better than i expected, as im a bit funny on flights, and always half expect something dramatic to happen, and after about 7 hours 45 minutes we landed and got all our bags, then went to meet Nadia, our fellow Australian! :) I have never met anyone to be quite as happy and smiley as Nadia. The second we met her, the first thing we saw was a massive smile, then she told us she had lost her bag, still smiling of course! I told you all Airports were stupid things.
So we all got on our next flight to Mombasa, then got picked up after trying to sort out Nadias bag (which was completely lost) and made our way to the Leap office, then on our way to Mwalugange elephant sanctuary where we were to spend our first 2 weeks :) Two of the most incredible weeks of my life.
